I have since childhood had a great fear and terror of uncontrolled fires. It literally petrifies me. I witnessed this forest fire at close range in Spain a few years ago. The whole mountain was on fire. Ash and smoke swirled on the searing wind that carried the deafening roar like an ocean toward me. Trees burst into flames that leapt upward in to the darkness of the night, and for the first time in many years I made a silent prayer. Was it fate that made it rain that night ?
